5 Questions to Ask the Company Training You

Picking the right truck driving school or trucking company to train with is imperative in making sure you get off to the right start in your truck driving career.

Each school and trucking company operates differently, so finding the perfect fit can be a difficult task to accomplish.

To make things simple, we've outlined 5 questions you should ask prior to CDL training.

5 CDL Training Questions To Ask

  1. How much does CDL training cost?
    1. If you choose to go with a truck driving school that charges you tuition, you're looking at having to pay anywhere between $3,000-$7,000.

However, some training and carrier companies offer what's called company sponsored CDL training programs, where a carrier company will pay for your tuition as long as you drive for them for a certain amount of time upon successful completion of training.

  2. How long is truck driver training?
    1. The length of training also varies depending on the company you’re training with. At one of Driver Solutions’ partner trucking schools, you can be ready to get your CDL in 3-4 weeks.

In over 25 years of service, we’ve developed a proven process that has put over 25,000 drivers behind the wheel as a truck driver!

We don’t just throw you out there either. Once you obtain your Class A CDL, you will begin over-the-road (OTR) training with a Driver Mentor who will show you the ropes of life on the road.

  3. Are there truck driver job opportunities upon completion of training?
    1. If you choose to pay for truck driving school yourself, you’re not always guaranteed a truck driving job once you receive your Class A CDL. Oftentimes you'll be on your own to find a job too, which can be tough to get because you don't have any experience yet.

But, if you choose to train through a company sponsored program, such as the one Driver Solutions offers, you’ll have a job opportunity waiting for you upon successful completion of training.

That’s right, Driver Solutions and PAM Transport will not only pay for your training, but hire you to drive for them afterwards! Drive for PAM for a year, and you won’t have to pay a dime of tuition for training.

  4. How long is the contract I sign?
    1. Similarly to the length of training, the length of a driving contract depends on which company you sign with. Generally, most contracts last about a year. As previously stated, your contract with PAM Transport lasts a year.

  5. Is there advancement opportunity?
    1. All companies have different opportunities available when working with them. However, not all companies have the incredible first year advancement opportunities that PAM offers.

At PAM, in your first year you can advance your career by becoming a Driver Mentor, an Owner Operator, or Drive Team HazMat just to name a few.

Be sure to ask these 5 questions to the company or school you're looking into getting your Class A CDL with.

It's a great way to get the ball rolling to get the information you need to make the best decision for your new start in a long-lasting, successful truck driving career!
