Nicole and Charlie are sisters who started their truck driving careers by team driving together. Before becoming a truck driver, Nicole was a cosmetologist working two other jobs, barely making ends meet. Truck driving has changed her life for the better!
Let's get to know Nicole better...
Q: You were a cosmetologist before trucking, right, what made you want to make that change?
A: Well, I was needing to work two other jobs on top of cosmetology to make it work. It didn't take too long before I realized that I needed to make a change.
Q: It has been about 1 year now since you got into truck driving, what has that first year been like?
A: Fun. Don't get me wrong, there was a learning curve and it was one big learning experience overall, but it has been great.
Q: Did anyone influence you to get into trucking?
A: It was my sister, Charlie's, neighbor, Jeff B. He told me that I could do it and gave me the confidence I needed. He had recently earned his license and knew I was a hands-on person who would be able to excel in this career path.
Q: How are you doing with reaching your goals?
A: I'm making good progress. I recently passed a couple of my endorsement tests and am one step closer to getting into a local position.
Q: What has your favorite thing about trucking been so far?
A: Hands down it's the experiences you get to have and the places you get to see. Being able to see so many parts of the country and travel to places I've always wanted to go has been great.
Q: What do you like to do in your free time?
A: I consider myself a workout fanatic. I love to do CrossFit, eat a lot of food and hang out with my friends.
Q: Is there anywhere you want to travel that you haven’t made it to yet?
A: I would like to travel to Thailand to get outside the country. I'd love to experience the food and culture. There are also some state parks that I'd like to go to in the U.S.
Q: What song is your go-to song on a long stressful day behind the wheel?
A: Simple Man by Shinedown.
Q. What advice would you give to someone considering trucking but reluctant to take the leap?
A: Just leap, as scary as it may seem, just jump in and give it everything you have. You will have such a better life by doing it.
