We recently posed these questions to our Driver Solutions Students and Alumni Facebook group members to find out what drove them to succeed in CDL school:
- Graduates - What do you feel it was that made you successful during CDL school?
- Incoming & Current Students - Why do you think you WILL BE successful in starting this new career?
Here's what we got:
Incoming and Current Students Answered
"I got to C1 Little Rock on Sunday, May 2nd with my permit already and met a student that was on his second week there and started studying with him the first day. Then after my first day I busted my butt to learn everything I can and it paid off. While others were talking to each other I was watching and listening to the other driver and instructor. I passed my road skills test at DMV on my second week with 79 on PTI, 0 on pad, and 2 on road. I know I will be a good trucker because I take pride in everything I do, and to do it the best I can." - Jason Blanchard
"I just passed the test at the DMV for both the Combination CDL permit and Tanker endorsement and ironically the lady who checked me in asked me the same question...I told her as a 48 year old grandma, with no one at home to be dependent on me anymore, I am looking for a new adventure, that will also help me become financially independent. I love to meet new people and love driving a large vehicle. I told her if I could drive an 84 passenger vehicle with loud elementary and middle schoolers on it, I was up for the challenge. I am so excited to start my training on June 6th!" - Lisa Bacon
"I'm starting class on May 31st. I think I'm going to be a successful driver because this is the opportunity I've been looking for to make a better life and future for my family. In the area where we currently live both my wife and I would have to work full-time factory jobs to make close to the money I'm expecting to make starting out with PAM. This will give my wife the chance to be a stay at home mother and for me to finally start saving money for our future together." - Nick Horton

What Recent Graduates Had to Say
"During CDL training I studied hard. Paid very close attention to what my instructors were telling me. Before school I had no idea how to move a truck. These guys at C1 Strafford (especially Demmy) know what they gotta teach and know how to talk to you through everything. I'm here at PAM now going through my week of orientation. So far so good! Just having all the support you need from family and friends and just stay focused will get you through it. You're there to obtain that CDL so you gotta keep that mind set throughout the training." - Rickey Lee Wilson
"As a recently upgraded driver, what helped me most through all the training was working with other students to learn. Teaching them in areas I was strong at helped me keep things fresh, answering questions I might not have though of, and learning different methods in areas I was weak at from others that had it down is what got me through testing." - Michael McKinney
3 Keys to CDL School Success
When you look at it from a big picture, there are 3 common themes that were the keys to success for these students and graduates:
- They were willing and eager to learn and put in the extra work.
- They were motivated by the fact that they wanted to better provide for themselves and their family.
- They stuck with it when the odds were against them.
If you possess these qualities and have the same level of motivation as those above, you too could one day be a successful CDL school graduate!
