Pick & Choose What Holidays Are Important To You

If you know that you won't be able to make it home for every holiday, like Trucker G said, pick and choose which ones are the most important to you. If you decide on the ones that are most important and don't come home for all of the other ones, you can plan to be home for the ones that take the top spots. If you know ahead of time if you're not going to be able to make it home, plan for it. Let the kids know that you won't be there, but that once you do make it home they get to celebrate the holiday AGAIN. It sounds kind of fun for little kids, doesn't it?

With birthdays, as Mrs. G says, you can sit down with your kids and talk about the different ways you can handle it. All in all, the safety of truckers is the most important. As a big family gal, I always want to be around my whole family during the holidays, but if it involved one of them driving through terrible weather, I would rather that family member be safe. To families and kids who have a parent that is a truck driver, try to understand that this is their job...meaning it's how they support you and the family. They don't want to miss the holiday just as much as you don't want them to miss either. With that being said, we hope everyone has safe travels home for the holidays. Wishing you a very Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year!
