My Visit to Iowa 80 - The World’s Largest Truckstop

First Impressions at the World's Largest Truckstop

"What's it like at the Iowa 80 World's Largest Truck Stop?"  That's a question that comes up quite a bit from newbies.

When I first got to the "World's Largest Truck Stop" Iowa 80, Walcott, Iowa, I thought I had found trucker heaven. Seriously, when you first pull into the parking area, with 900 parking slots, you're thinking, ok this place is HUGE!  AND It is, for sure!

After just over a year of driving, I kept hearing that I needed to make it there some time. Some truckers I talk to make it there once or twice and that's enough for them. Some like the fact there are always open parking slots and can't get enough of all the trucks, equipment and sideshows.  I think I fall somewhere near the latter. I do enjoy all the trucks they are showcasing and I also enjoy being able to get supplies at a cheaper price. I once had to purchase some tarp repair supplies and I wasn't going thru our yard. I couldn't find it anywhere between Oregon and Iowa.  I finally found a repair kit at Iowa 80...yeah buddy!

Awesome Trucks & Good Food

I think after seeing the photos from the World's Largest Truck Stop in this post, you'll better understand what I'm talking about with the showcase trucks. The thing is, photos really don't do these trucks justice. If you ask me, getting up close and personal is the only way to go.

The Iowa 80 Truckstop also has a restaurant and some fast food venues. I have truly tried to become a much healthier trucker, but for some reason when I'm here I seem to always buy some Taco Bell. I just can't help myself! I really miss the soft tacos. This last time though, they had no taco sauce?? None!  What's up with that? I didn't think that was even possible. I about cried. I got my 3 soft tacos and walked away with no sauce. Wondering why, oh why? How could this happen?  But I quickly reminded myself, I'm a trucker now. I need to suck it up and keep rolling baby. LOL

With all things being equal, I would certainly recommend a trip to the World's Largest Truck Stop to any truck driver. You can decided for yourself if you'll want to return. Neon lights are beckoning. Enjoy and from what I've heard, their restaurant is pretty darn nice as well. One thing is for sure, you won't be worried about finding a place to park with 900 parking spaces available. The Iowa corn will seem like a distance memory...or at least for the night.
