Trucking Careers Offer Hope For Those Recently Unemployed

pam-transport-truck-jobWhile it looks as though the economy is improving, there are still many people searching for jobs.  The good news for them is that a large number of people in a similar situation are finding jobs in trucking.  A trucking career is proving to be a viable option for many as it provides good pay and benefits to support a family.

In a recent article from The Daily News out of Columbia, Mike Olson's story was featured.  Olson had been selling equipment parts in Oregon for 20 years prior to losing his job.  He was faced with the idea of starting over again and being out of work for an indefinite amount of time.  Olson turned to truck driving after his wife's cousin recommend a trucking career.  Several unemployed people in a similar situation are attending trucking training with Olson and they should be qualified for a trucking job in a little over a month.

This is just one example of many when it comes to people at a crossroads in their life that turn to a trucking career to get their feet back on the ground.  Army veterans, plumbers, construction workers, etc...they have all been able to find a new career in trucking.  Over the next eight years, employment of truck drivers is expected to grow 9 percent, and competition among trucking companies for experienced drivers will mean a good market for workers, according to a U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics report.

One other good thing about a job in trucking is that it's something you can be placed into quickly.  Our company sponsored CDL training program lasts around 3 weeks and it's not uncommon for our truck driving school graduates to be out on the road with a trucking company like USA Truck or PAM Transport in just over 4 weeks.

If you are at that crossroads in your life, or just looking for a change of pace - go ahead and fill out our online trucking application to schedule a time to speak with one of our driver agents.
