Here it is - the fourth and final part of our interview with experienced PAM Transport driver Tom Reeves! Tom's been driving with PAM Transport for over five years and has some great information to share with new and experienced drivers alike. If you missed them, here's Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3 of our interview.
So far, Tom's talked about what it's like driving for PAM Transport, team driving, staying healthy, and many other topics. Now let's see what the future has in store for him!
Q: What are some ways that you stay entertained during your downtime?
A: I have books, movies, and a TV. I mostly read. I’ll read 2-3 pages and I’m asleep. Sometimes I’ll just wander around truck stops and see what there is to see.
Q: Seen any cool places on your travels?
A: Washington D.C., Oregon, Washington state, California… everywhere, basically. I’ve seen the Grand Canyon many times. I’ve also seen Vegas. I like that because I can park at a truck stop and walk down the strip. It’s only about a quarter mile long.
Q: What could PAM improve on?
A: The only drawback I have is that they need to re-plan a little faster. Sometimes I wait awhile to get my next load. Other than that, the company’s pretty good!
Q: Have you received any bonuses/raises since you’ve been with PAM?
A: I’ve gotten fuel and safety bonuses.
Q: How many miles do you think you’ve run total?
A: Hmm.. 600,000? No, let’s go with 500,000. That should be close.
Q: What advice would you give to someone who is brand new to the industry?
A: Take your time and take it easy. Don’t rush yourself. Listen to the experienced drivers. If you have questions, ask! There’s no stupid questions at all. That’s what I’d tell them.
Q: Do you think you’ll stay with PAM for a while?
A: Yeah, I hope to retire within the next 7 years.
Q: What do you think the future has in store for PAM Transport?
A: I think they’ll expand to more areas and get more freight. I think they’ll become bigger.
