PAM Transport Driver Mentor Rubben K. Shares His Road Wisdom

Rubben KerrHello and welcome to my blog! My name is Rubben Kerr and I'm from Austin, Texas.

Before becoming a truck driver, I spent 12 years working in the transportation business. When the company I worked for closed, it seemed like a natural progression to become an OTR truck driver.

I drove for a while before progressing into a truck driver training position with PAM Transport. The Mentor Program was appealing to me because I have always gravitated towards positions that offer a leadership role. The idea of having a positive impact on people's lives as they transitioned into a new career was very appealing and seemed like it would be rewarding as well.

My favorite thing about life on the road has been seeing all the new places! Whenever I speak with family and friends while I'm on the road, the first question is always, "Where are you?" That always leads to a pretty good discussion. I still find myself whipping out my camera to take pictures when I'm in the passenger seat and see something new. Most new drivers keep their camera phone out when they're in the truck.

One thing that's surprised me about this career choice is the sheer size and scope of the transportation industry as well as all of the opportunities that it affords. I think most people are under the assumption that you just get in the vehicle and go from Point A to Point B, when in reality there is so much more involved.

My hobbies outside of trucking include fantasy football, cheering for the Dallas Cowboys, and an occasional round of golf when I can squeeze it in.

In this blog, I'll be detailing the experiences of a PAM Transport Driver Mentor as well as sharing tidbits of information with you all on what it's really like being an OTR truck driver. I hope you enjoy my blog, and if you have any questions for me, please leave them below and I'll do my best to answer them!
