Jonathan Upton from Driver Solutions Facebook page asks: What was the hardest part in obtaining your CDL?
I think the hardest part of obtaining your CDL is the actual testing part itself. The truck driving schools that Driver Solutions works with are very professional and they teach you everything you need to know/do during the actual CDL test, so it really comes down to you executing everything they taught you when it counts. I didn't do very well on the testing part the first time I took the CDL test. I did good in the "yard" part, but when it came time to do the road test, I was a nervous wreck. Now, of course, a lot of this was just me getting myself worked up...you know how it goes. When I got that worked up for the road test, I wasn't much good out there on the road. Hence the joke about "Where is the Splitter?" I talked about in previous blogs.
After my not so great attempt on the road the first time, the truck driving school director sat me down and gave me some of the best advice I've heard to date about driving the truck. He said "Wayne, quit blaming the different stick shift, quit blaming the different truck. Just drive the truck, don't let the truck drive you. Relax out there and do what you have been doing for 2 weeks here in school. You will be fine if you relax, take a professional approach and STAY FOCUSED." With that being said, I nailed the second road test! I drove that second road test with some confidence, got a great score and ultimately got my CDL!
Take care and be safe,
