Best Portable Oven for Truck Drivers: The Trucker Toaster Oven Review Guide

Before we get into the best toaster oven for truck drivers, let's first briefly talk about toaster ovens vs. microwaves. It seems to be a general consensus that most people, not just truck drivers, prefer a toaster oven over at microwave if they have the time and the choice.  The fact of the matter is that the slow heat from the toaster oven just makes your food taste much better.  Who wants to reheat a sandwich or pizza only to have it be soggy when it could be nice and crisp?  Ok, so now that we've made that point, let's try to find out what features the best toaster oven for truck drivers must have...

RoadPro Toaster Oven for Truckers

Must-Have Features for Truck Drivers:

  • Easy to transport and durable
  • Plugs directly into lighter/power socket
  • Settings for both cooking and warming food
  • Convenient to clean in truck

As always, we've done a lot of investigation for you by reading toaster oven reviews and talking with thousands of truck drivers via the Driver Solutions Facebook page.  In all reality there aren't any great choices when it comes to portable toaster ovens for truck drivers, but there are some good ones.  It should come as no surprise that at the top of that list of portable toaster ovens to take with you on the go is the RoadPro RPSC-900 12V Portable Oven and Pizza Maker.  It's a good product from a trusted name, but based upon some reviews it does have a few shortcomings.

In terms of the shortcomings I am referring to, the main thing you're going to get with portable toaster ovens is limited/delayed heating capabilities.  This isn't to say that you can't cook or heat something to your liking, but it is to say that it may take way longer than you're used to.  In all reality, that's just part of it.  If you want something that's small, portable and operating from a 12V plug - it's going to take a while for food to heat up/cook!  You'll no doubt read a lot of portable toaster over reviews where people are complaining about the length of time it takes to warm something up, but at the end of the day if you have the extra time it's worth it for that toaster oven taste.  Check out some of the mixed reviews from Amazon for the RoadPro RPSC-900 12V Portable Oven and Pizza Maker below.

RoadPro Toaster Over Reviews from Truck Drivers on Amazon

"Actually the review title should be "it warms!". This is a nice little oven that will warm food but you have to use it a few times to get to know how long cerain items will take to heat. Depending on if your food is frozen or just cold, it will take between a half hour to an hour to heat up sufficiently. It's a little smaller that I thought it would be but it's easy to transport. I use little tin pans and with a little planning, this product does what I need it to do." - Gerald from Cleveland, OH

"I bought this for my son-in-law who owns and drives a dump truck every day. This is his third one through the years and he just loves being able to heat up his lunch instead of a cold sandwich." - Constance J. Gnos from Florida

"I got this for my OTR driver. He has used it once and says its okay to and has only used it once to cook biscuits. It did take a little bit to cook the biscuits but he said it was nice to have just for heating up bagels, bread etc to get it warm. Thank a truck driver next time you see one." - Rebecca

PRO TIP: Pick up the RoadPro RP-203EC 12V 12' Extension Cord with Cigarette Lighter Plug to make heating up food or cooking on the road even more convenient.  At under $10, it's a no brainer.  You can also throw in a 3 pack of handy aluminum pans for just $3 to help you get started cooking fast.
