Wayne Cragg was a driver for USA Truck during 2012-2013. Below are his thoughts and experiences driving for the company during that time. The views and opinions expressed below are his and not representative of those of Driver Solutions.
In April of 2015, Driver Solutions and USA Truck mutually agreed to dissolve their partnership. Driver Solutions remains committed to helping new drivers find the best truck driving job and CDL training opportunities available. Learn more about our company-sponsored CDL training program here.
Ashley Casey from Driver Solutions Facebook page asks: Are you wanting to become an owner operator?
First of all, thank you for your question. I haven't really put a lot of thought into just yet. I have some good friends who have many, many years in the trucking industry and maybe later I'll be more interested in approaching the subject. At this point, I'm just trying to get my 1 year in with USA Truck (my contract and new hires are signed to one year contracts as part of company paid CDL training) and get Driver Solutions paid off (CDL training loan) within that year. Another big milestone I need to reach before thinking of being an Owner Operator is getting my 90 days solo driving in without an incident. I've been with USA Truck longer when you include the OTR training part of it, but with my 90 days solo come health insurance and other nice things. So maybe a little later I will think about being an Owner Operator.
I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on it though...do you know anyone who's an owner operator?
