Driver Solutions recently sat down and did a phone interview with new PAM Transport team driver Derek Coleman. Derek began driving over-the-road for PAM Transport in March of this year with teammate Steve O'Briant. Derek has some good insight into the world of a new truck driver to share with you all. Keep reading for our quick Q&A with Derek!
Q: About how many miles a week are you averaging with PAM Transport?
A: We’re getting pretty good miles. We’re getting good paychecks.
Q: How long are you usually out for? About how much home time do you get?
A: We’re usually out for about, I’d say three weeks, then home maybe 3 or 4 days.
Q: What’s your favorite place that you’ve seen so far?
A: Home!! No but really. You always visit cool places so it’s just neat to see all of the different new areas.
Q: Do you find it difficult to stay healthy out on the road?
A: I think I’m doing alright as far as health. I mean, I’m not 300 pounds! I do work out though. And we stop at WalMart, but it’s usually for bottled water. We’re usually eating out.
Q: What do you like about team driving?
A: The truck is always moving, so it’s better money. It’s good, I like it.
Q: Do you have any tips for new drivers on getting along with your teammate?
A: Don’t be an idiot? Haha…be courteous. You have to think about the other person, you can’t just think about yourself. Like for example, sometimes my co-driver likes to have the TV off, sometimes I like it on. So, it’s just about respect. And taking turns, and compromising. And it’s good if you pick who your partner is. My partner chose me, so it’s cool. We went to school together and were cool there and became friends. His kids keep asking when I’m coming over to visit!
