Lifestyle of the Professional Truck Driver

Posted 12-17-13 by Amanda Brown

The lifestyle of a professional truck driver has never been better. And it’s all due to the changes made for the driver. 30 years ago, truck driving was a hard job, and the trucks were made to haul freight. Very few trucking companies thought about the comfort of the driver. But during the past 20 years, there have been tremendous improvements in the quality of equipment for the professional truck driver. Today, safety, comfort, and convenience are built into to every truck on the road.

Most trucks out on the road today have great features, such as air conditioning, air ride suspension, and satellite communications systems. The typical truck driver can enhance his ‘home away from home’ by adding some creature comforts, like a microwave and a mini-fridge, to make life on the road more convenient. Drivers can also add their own unique touches to their trucks to keep up with life off the road. Satellite radio is available to beam in the latest news, sports, and music, and there are even channels offering programming for today’s truck driver. And for time spent out of the driver’s seat, a truck driver can enjoy cable TV or surf the internet and email friends and family with their notebook computer. This just goes to show you that you don’t have to sacrifice comfort to drive a truck.
